Female body shape or figure is the cumulative product of a woman’s skeletal structure and the quantity and distribution of muscle and fat on the body. As with most physical traits, there is a wide range of normality of female body shapes.

Human beings and cultures have perennially focused attention on the female body as a source of aesthetic pleasure, sexual attractionfertility, and reproduction. There are, and have been, wide differences on what should be considered an ideal or preferred body shape, both for attractiveness and for health reasons. These have varied among cultures simultaneously.

Women’s bodies occur in a range of shapes. Female figures are typically narrower at the waist than at the bust and hips. The bust, waist, and hips are called inflection points, and the ratios of their circumferences are used to define basic body shapes

Body measurements can provide a good estimate of health status and risk factors for chronic diseases, but measurements alone do not determine health status. Health is a subjective phenomenon; every individual is distinctive. We are exposed to different risk factors based on environment, lifestyle and family history. Nevertheless, the three most commonly employed measurements utilized to estimate health status include body mass index, waist circumference and waist-to-hip ratio.

Body Mass Index

Body mass index is calculated from a person’s height and weight, which may indicate fat composition. However, BMI does not account for muscle mass which means elite athletes may have high bmi ratings. Typically, BMI is used as an indicator of health status as the lower or higher the BMI, the greater the health risk based on the assumed amount of body fat. The ideal healthy BMI for women would fall into the normal range of 18.5 to 24.9. The Arizona Department of Health Services reports 57 percent of Arizona women have a BMI of 25 or greater,.meaning they are overweight or obese.

Waist Circumference

As the term implies, waist circumference measures the distance around your waist. This measurement is considered to have greater value in assessing the health status of individuals than BMI as it more accurately predicts the amount of fat. Fat on the abdomen increases risks for chronic diseases such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, Type 2 diabetes and heart disease. A woman’s ideal waist circumference measurement should be less than 35 inches.

Waist-to-Hip Ratio

The American College on Exercise notes that your waist-to-hip ratio is the most accurate estimated measurement of good health. To find your ratio, divide your waist circumference by the measurement around your hips. An ideal waist-to-hip measurement for women is less than 0.75 inches indicates excellence and 0.80 to 0.86 indicates average. Anything above 0.86 is cause for concern.

Being thin and beautiful doesn’t sound like cause for concern, but that ideal can lead young women to be highly dissatisfied with their bodies, something that can bring about unhealthy behaviors. Now, researchers have found that certain factors, including family support and stress-busting strategies, can act as a buffer against such pressures.

The research is based on a theoretical model suggesting certain factors can boost well-being and, in turn, lead to a healthy body image. The researchers, including Shannon Snapp of the University of Arizona, wanted to test out the model.

Snapp and her colleagues decided to focus their test on college students, a group likely to experience self-consciousness about appearance, they said.

 

 

Past research has shown between 25 percent and 40 percent of U.S. college students experience negative body image and eating problems “that often include extreme worries about body image, excessive weight management strategies, and out-of-control eating episodes,” write the study researchers this week in the journal Sex Roles.

10 Questions To Ask Yourself Before You Take The Leap And Dye Your Hair

Dying your hair may seem like a superficial thing to lose sleep over, but for anyone whos actually taken the plunge and done it, you know it can bea completely life-changing experience.

I mean, youre changing the appearance of your whole head, or most of it, at least. People look at your head every day, and, of course, you do too, so you might as well enjoy looking at it.

But, its so much more than that.

Changing your hair color can be a powerfully exhilarating experience. Its a physical way to channel a more intangible desire you may have for change.

As with any big life decision, though, you need to take some time to really think about it, and make sure this is the right call for you.

Here are 10 questions to ask yourself before you take the leap and dye your hair.

1. Why now?

Why do you want to dye your hair? Have you sat on the idea for awhile, or are you walking into the salon just hours after falling in love with a Pinterest board?

Believe me, I know how easy it is to get excited about changing your hair once the idea comes to mind. But, remember this is a semi-permanent decision one youll have to live with for at least a few weeks, if not months.


2. Am I doing this for the right reasons?

People will often change their look right after a huge life experience, such as a breakup, or even after gettinglaid off from a job.

Change is good, and it will feel good in those high-pressure life moments. But again, this decision is going to stick with you for a pretty considerable amount of time. Just be sure its what you really want.


3. Do I know what I want?

Have you taken the time to research different images of the color you have in mind? The most dangerous thing you can do is walk into a salon with no pictures or other points of reference for the color you want.

Going blonde or brunette can mean a lot of different things, especially for hairdressers who have worked with hundreds of different colorformulas. It may feel obnoxious to have an entire Pinterest board for your hairdresser to look at, but I promise youll both be thankful you came prepared.


4. Is this color going to come out after a few washes?

A new hair color doesnt come cheap, unfortunately. Talk to your stylist about the longevity of the color youre getting, and how you can make sure you get the absolute most out of it.

This might mean washing your hair more infrequently, or using a special type of shampoo or conditioner to retain the color as long as possible.

Get your moneys worth, baby.


5. Speaking of money, how expensive is this going to be?

This will depend on what exactly youre doing to your hair, where you live, and even how long your locks are.

Id say a solid base price for any good dye job will probably start at around $60 or $70, and the price will go up from there depending on how intricate the style is, if youre getting a blowout, etc.


6. Is my hair healthy enough to dye it?

Believe me, you do not want to lean back in the shampoo chair, bleach all up in your roots, and find out your hair is falling out into the sink.

A consultation appointment with a stylist before the actual dye job would allow a chance for the expert to give you the go-ahead, but you can also check out the health of your hair at home with a simple little trick.

Pull a strand of your hair taut, add a drop of water, and count how many secondsit takes for your hair to fully absorb the water.

If it takes more than 10 seconds to absorb, youre good to go. If it takes less time, maybe go ahead and book that consultation before you take the plunge.


7. Will this color match my eyebrows?

If not, screw it, go ahead and dye your eyebrows too if you have to! YOLO, right?

Pro tip: You can easily color your eyebrows at home, with a mens mustache dye. All you need is a timer, some Q-tips, cotton swabs, Vaseline, a mild shampoo, and of course, the dye.

8. What if I hate it?

Hair dye can be a fickle little monster to deal with.Sometimes, ashy blonde turns into green, or dark brown turns into pure black.

Or, in less nightmarish scenarios, maybe you simply had a vision of how your look would turn out, and the end result is just kind of underwhelming.

Just remember: Its not the end of the world. It eventually wash out, and your hairdresser can work their magic with purposeful layers. In a later appointment, bring your shade to whatever vision you had in mind.


9. Will my job be cool with it?

If youre lucky enough to work in a creative industry, your employer probably wouldnt even care if you got zebra stripe highlights.

But, if you find yourself in that typical, corporate cubicle grind, and youre going for a more untraditional color outside of the blonde, brunette, and redhead realms, clear it with your boss first.


10. Will this new color empower me?

I know, it sounds a little cheesy. But for real, dying your haircan make you feel like a totally different person, in both good and bad ways.

You want a look that complements you in a physical and figurative sense something that gives you confidence, makes you feel beautiful, and makes you feel in your identity.

It wasn’t until I made a lifestyle change and realized that eating clean, natural foods was the answer that I started to look and feel much better.

With that being said, there are many healthy, natural ways that you can detox your body. With summer right around the corner, many of us are scrambling to get our bodies “beach ready.” The hot weather and outdoor activities light a fire under us to make sure that we are not worrying about how we look, so we can enjoy ourselves. A good detox is meant to rid your body of any toxins, while promoting gut health.

Drinking plenty of water is the best natural (and cheap) way to detox your body. Water helps our kidneys flush toxins and waste out of our system. If we were to become dehydrated, our kidneys would not be able to function properly, which could be detrimental to our health. There is a reason why you are always hearing people preach about how we need to make sure we are drinking enough water. Water does so much for our bodies, and acting as a detoxing agent is one of them.
